“I loved the experience of staying in this hotel. I have stayed at many hotels in Kyiv in the past 3 years but this hotel is a page of old Soviet History. It is clean and well maintained with good food and all the services you expect from a modern hotel. But for me what made it special was sleeping in the same room where Soviet officials had stayed when coming to Ukraine in the 1950s and 1960s. During important episodes in history such as the Chernobyl disaster, international experts would have slept in these rooms and met in these meeting rooms to make difficult decisions. Deals made, both good and evil, have been made in this historic space. If these walls could talk…. During air raids, the very safe shelter in the deep basement had quiet conversations of visiting Dutch, German, American and British voices mixed with Ukrainian children playing with stuffed animals and young Ukrainian couples on honeymoon holding each other closely. I will be back when in Kyiv next. I loved everything about this hotel.”
