“The breakfast was fine, the gym was good as was the rooftop pool but I was really disappointed it was only available for use from the 1st June which was the last day of my stay. On the first night, someone was trying to get into my room. As a woman travelling alone this was absolutely terrifying and I shouted out for them to leave me alone, someone was here and luckily I had bolted the door. I called the front desk who told me “not to worry” and that security were looking into it. I felt completely dismissed, there was no reassurance and I was panicking alone in my room in the middle of the night. I called back and asked for more information as I was not happy with the response and I was told the night mananger would explain to me. Sometime later I had a phone call from reception that due to a system issue they had accidentally booked someone into the same room as me, so they had a key and that is why someone was trying to access my room. Whilst I understand mistakes do happen, this is completely unacceptable, especially as as solo female traveller, I had chosen the Hilton as I wanted to feel very safe in a new city and hoped that such a reputable name would be reliable. After I was eventually able to get some sleep and left the room in the morning, the front of the lock had been removed, which looked really odd and though someone had tampered with the lock, which made me even more concerned. Again I was dismissed and my concerns ignored. I was so upset and scared that I became emotional at the front desk and only then was I offered a room move. The hotel then admitted their fault and apologised….with a fruit plate. I didn’t want to bring anymore attention to the fact I was travelling alone so I accepted this. Luckily my family all turned up (I was in Istanbul for a wedding!) and my uncle spoke with reception as he was appalled with how I’d been treated. At the end of my stay, I was offered a transfer to the airport (this is worth around £40, less than 10% of the hotel bill) which I accepted but this does nothing to resolve the experience I went through which ruined my trip. Do not travel here, you will not be safe.”
