“This is a 5 star hotel and nothing we experienced made us feel the stars were undeserved. The doors were opened for us whenever we entered or left the hotel and on leaving we were each given a bottle of water (nice touch!). All the staff were friendly and efficient (special mention to Pedro who checked us in and gave us a tour of the hotel with explanations of it's historical significance). The interior of the hotel has a definite wow factor. The bedrooms are a good size - modern design and very comfortable. Great choice for breakfast. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the meals were excellent and reasonable value. The outside areas are beautifully maintained with great views. The swimming pool was welcome after a hot day exploring. Fundao itself has little to recommend it but the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We visited Monsanto (definitely worth doing but you have to be reasonably fit to reach the castle - which is the highlight of the town) and Castle Branco. Nothing”
