“We love staying here. We have been twice already and will come again. The location is perfect as we love to both hike mountains and laze by the sea, so we are situated very well for both of those activities. There are many worthwhile hikes accessible nearby, several beaches (both secluded and public), and Sougia and Palaiochora are lovely towns that are within relatively quick reach. We love the restaurant above (everything on the menu is a must-try—even the fries are phenomenal as they taste like they’re cut fresh to order). You have to have the boureki! It’s a daily special, so if you miss it one day, be sure to go back. The staff at Monastery are incredibly hospitable and professional. They’re always very accommodating and you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Also, the food is delicious! Do try it! We also loved the housekeeping. The woman who does this is very thorough and thoughtful; she considers every detail and leaves the place feeling so fresh and inviting each day. Coming back after she’d been there felt special, like someone put love into the place—more than just a job; sincere and genuine care for the space and the experience. Last but not least, we were very lucky to share our balcony with a mama cat and her two babies. We absolutely loved bonding with them for the week, and I was very sad to leave them! We will be back again next year. We can’t recommend Monastery enough for a budget-friendly but very comfortable stay in the gorgeous Cretan mountains.”
