“Beautiful old building, grounds, canal access,great views & very friendly, cheerful staff, although at times clearly under pressure. Very good breakfast on both mornings. Accessible & good hot shower, comfortable beds. Negatives: We were in the family room, this involved going down & up 2 flights of stairs, with a very curious & dangerous configuration of steps at the top of the first flight, where you could not have both feet at the same level. However we found we could avoid this bit altogether, by going out through the front door, to access the second up flight. Then down 2 further flights of stairs, motion sensitive lighting not v good in bright daylight & difficult to see room number on arrival. We had known there would be a lot of stairs. Room had a couple of things which were disappointing, but were immediately addressed by the staff. We did not mention the lack of natural light, the small window is opposite a brick wall, or the v. peculiar smell, which permeated our clothing, as the staff would not be able to do anything about this. The room is not suitable for early or light sleepers, as it must be under a corridor, as quite sustained marching back & forth over the ceiling & opening of doors,early & late. All a bit disappointing as we were really looking forward to the stay. I would definitely not recommend the room for anyone with mobility problems or impaired vision. ”
