“I loved this hotel. My room was huge, light, and spotlessly clean. Clever lighting, a massive and comfortable bed. There was a kettle and they supplied bottled water, herbal teabags, and coffee bags. Shanghai is huge and can be overwhelming with its towering buildings and neon lights, so I was glad to be staying in this ordinary suburb, away from the craziness! A taxi into the centre took approximately 30 minutes and cost between £3 and £5, using the Didi app (Chinese Uber!). Breakfast was adequate - a mix of Chinese dishes, fresh fruit, yogurts and eggs. There’s a bistro restaurant attached, which has a pleasant ambience. A few doors along from there is a microbrewery with tasty beers served in iced glasses by the two friendly and welcoming owners. They’ll let you play with their kittens if you’re good! It’s a real neighbourhood place where guys sit at the back smoking and playing cards, occasionally bursting into song as the karaoke screen is usually on, and visitors are warmly welcomed. The only thing to mention is that it’s on the flight path to the airport, and on a sometimes busy road, so if ambient noise disturbs you, bring earplugs.”
