“Andorra is a great ski location, with Grand Vilara the largest / main area.
We traveled from Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Barcelona Spain in just one hour 40 minutes.
Andorra has a very good line bus connection from Barcelona Airport, the bus stop is 50 meters to the right just outside terminal B. This ANDBus bus drives non stop from Barcelona Airport to the bus interconnection stop in Andorra in 3 hours. From the Andorra interconnection hub it's a short bus to any hotel in Andorra. 36 € for 3 persons.
Evenia Coray hotel in Encamp.
This hotel has a great view over the Andorra Valley and is located at walking distance from the Encamp Funicamp main cable cabin.
The rooms are not too big but practical. We traveled with our kid and were offered a free upgrade with double bedroom.
The hotel crew is nice and friendly as all people seem to be in Andorra. English is not a second language in Andorra. Catelan, Spanish and French.
Wifi is unstable but… who needs wifi on a ski holiday?
Breakfast and diner are ok, with a selection of vegan, a saladebar, vis and meat.
Drinks are cheap 5 € for a bottle of wine, 2/3 € for a beer.
Free ski locker (10 € deposit) and underground garage to park your car.
Encamp
is a nice old mountain village with beautiful ancient small streets that run through the village. There are plenty of well equipped ski shops, supermarkets, local cuisine restaurants. Encamp has a free ski bus, the Funibus, connecting all hotels in Encamp to the Funicamp cable station.
Funicamp
This cable station brings you up the mountains at the maximal height of 2700 meters above sea level in a large 28 person cabin in about 17 minutes.
The ski area is large with over 300 km of pistes.
Most pistes are wide and have a open view, unlike pistes in Austria.
Most pistes have button lifts and chair lifts.
It’s not too busy at the lifts. Most lifts have near zero wait time. Sometimes 15 minutes for the lower lifts. About 500 professional international ski teachers are working for Grand Vilara ski resort. Grand Vilara also has the longest green beginners slobe with 8KM lenght.
Andorra de Vella.
L2 and L4 bus connects the smaller villages to the main capital. From Encamp this is about 20 min. The 'capital' of Andorra with about 25000 residents is a village size city. A tax free shoppers paradise. Perhaps being Dutch where we have another kind of shopping street 'formula'. The order of shops in the main shopping street goes a bit like this: Cheap clothingshop, pharmacy, cosmetic / perfume store, Watch store (Rolex, Patek, Tag Heuer, Bell Ross), jewelery, big shopping mall, it / tech store Apple etc, a flagship store and continue this order for about 1.6km.
Lamborghini, MCIntosh high end.
Ski gear has 4,5% tax or 16% discount compared to Holland.
Grand stores, Patek Philippe, Rolex, rings, diamonds and dozens of ski and snowboard shops. All packed in 1 long shopping street and some crossings. Tobacco and alcohol are cheap, 2 € for a pack of cigarettes, 6 € for Jalisco Tequilla (Dutch retail price is 28 €) petrol is 1.13 € per liter.
The shopping mall ILLA
hosts a row of flagship stores such as Oakley, North Face, Swarovski, Buffs, Salomon, O Bag, Boss, Hagloffs. Top floor a nice candy store with a nursing theme. The supermarket in the mall has a great collection of local goods.
Mont Magic Fun Park Canillo.
Family / beginners and fun park Magic.
Easy to reach with bus line L4.
Take the cable cabin from the center of Canillo. A beatiful sunside beginners slobe with a zipline (17 €) and Wiegand All Year Slide Bobsled 3 rides for 15 € pp) great for a day off. The moutain view is great and they ski schools are international oriented. With a chairlift you are connected to Grand Vilara. They have a mascot called Puk. The familiy restaurant can be busy between 1200 and 2400. Using your Grand Vilara skipas there are a few automatic photo moments, the zipline and the bobsled, show your skipass to the machine then later collect your 5 € photo souvenir between the zipline and bobsled magic slide.
Small minus, the L4 bus does not stop at the cabin lift, the bus that connects the valley L2 and L4 are not included in the Grand Vilara ski pass.”
